Photos are a critical part of your small business website. But not all photos are equal. So, how do you choose the best ones? Here is some simple but important advice on including great photos on your website.
Types of Photos
There are 3 types of photos you can include:
- Photos taken by a professional photographer
- Photos you take yourself
- Stock photos
Let’s look at each type of photo in turn.
Photos by a Professional Photographer
Get a professional photographer to take photos of you and your business. These are the best photos to include, but they are also the most expensive.
Possible images to include are photos of:
- The outside of your business
- Landmarks close to your business
- The inside of your business (with and without staff)
- Business vehicles if they have branding
- Staff performing services
- Profile shots
- Photos with satisfied customers
- Team photos
Of course, some of these suggestions may not be relevant to your business. But I suggest you use the ones that work for you.
I can put you in touch with a great local photographer.
Photos You Take Yourself
Assuming you are not a bad photographer like me, these are the second-best photos to include. While they may not be as good as professional photos, they are cheaper, and they are original.
But what photos should you include? Any relevant photos, including those from the above list that you didn’t get a professional photographer to take.
Stock Photos
Stock photos are generic photos taken by professional photographers (e.g., a plumber taking notes while on the phone).
They are good-quality photos, but the downside is that they are not specific to your business. I wouldn’t say don’t use them. But if you do, also use real photos from your business.
We can supply 5 stock photos for $100 (at the time of writing). 10 photos would be $200 etc. You must purchase photos in groups of 5, so if you want 8 photos, you must buy 10.
